Construction is happening in the Main building, and when it is all done...wow! Here are some of the pictures taken of the construction so far:

Some construction basics...

Where to go

Where NOT to go

Soon temporary walls and equipment were everywhere!

       Some classrooms were moved...

   University classroom
On Location was relocated to the north wing of 2nd floor

...and a new temporary custodians' closet was constructed.

Demolition began shortly thereafter,
which progressed quickly.

The northeast porch (off the courtyard) will be enclosed, so the ceiling was removed.

The area for the new elevator was marked out on the first and second floors, and then the areas were demolished and cleaned out (including digging deep into the dirt!).

The temporary wall in the narthex had to be moved to make more room.

A few other projects, besides the construction inside the main building, happened. As of this posting, they are near completion, with some minor adjustments to make, and a few more pieces of equipment to install.

LIGHTING SYSTEM:
To the right is the staging area in the Sanctuary for the new lighting system.

To install the new lighting system, the pews had to be moved about to make room for the scaffolding. The type shown here was used mainly, and was less cumbersome to work on than the standard type of scaffold. As you can see, the workers got to some dizzying heights.

One of the many rows of spotlights. They get pretty bright, but when the final fixtures in other parts of the Sanctuary are installed, the entire system will get a final "tweaking."

REPLACING THE ROOF:
Here are workers replacing the roof over the Sanctuary. It was like living inside a drummer's trap set, but the staff got used to it.

Meanwhile, great strides were made in preparing for the elevator installation:

The joists between levels were removed

The area below ground level was excavated, evened, and foundation poured for the
elevator shaft.

Up we go!

Temporary Skylight

We had an overnight guest in one of the upstairs classrooms, when construction workers startled this little one from a nap inside the construction zone. Member Brian Newlin provided the live trap and some sweet feed for bait; and the next day it was given a ride out
to the country by member Jim Shaw,
and was set free.

Basic work on the upstairs landing area was completed.

"**- Some Assembly Required"

Parts for the elevator itself were delivered, and will be assembled under the supervision of the manufacturer.

After the construction of the elevator, some issues kept the progress on hiatus for awhile.  Construction resumed in May, and below are photos of the rapid progress.

The first major change was the "forest" of wall studs in the spaces being renovated.

Work on the new Chapel, included ventilation shafts, and breaking the wall on the porch for the new hallway.

The beginnings of the new kitchen.

The south stairwell is being enclosed.

Much scaffolding has been erected temporarily for repairs to the inside ceiling of the sanctuary.   from floor...

...all the way up...

to the ceiling.

Wow, that's high!
