                Make A Difference Day

Make a difference day is an annual national event, held the fourth Saturday in October that encourages people in the community to try to help someone else.

We met at the church at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2006 to go to work. Our focus last year was the Mission of Hope shelter on Perkins Road. The mission offers a helping hand and place for homeless families to stay until they can make it on their own. They also help families set up a home after they leave the shelter. That day we will build shelves; clean out and organize storage, linen, and food areas; and work on flower beds.

  • Want to help on Make A Difference Day, or make a donation to the shelter? Call the office for more details (372-5580). Please make a difference in someone else's life.

Our church has embraced working together on this special day for the past five years.  In 2004, we had 90 volunteers that helped bake cookies, make lunches for the volunteers, planted bulbs and cleaned flower beds at the Senior Citizen Center, worked on cleaning up Salmon Plaza, built two wheelchair ramps, did yard work for members, senior citizens and Sangre ampitheatre.  We also painted a hallway at Sangre to look like huge bulletin boards, the Payne Co. Youth office, and an elderly woman's house.  We even helped our own preschool by tearing out some playground equipment and varnishing the bench at our entrance.

2005's Make a Difference Day was no exception. Held on Saturday, October 22, volunteers again painted, washed, cleaned and built ramps just to name a few activities. The youth capped the day off with a car wash and donated all proceeds to the Cameroon Ikiliwindi Village Soap, Salt and Medicine Project.
