Music Notes:

We thank Kim Leffingwell, flute, for her wonderful contribution to worship today!

Prelude: "That Lonesome Valley" - W. Held
                   Kim Leffingwell,
flute
This piece is based on hymn #80 and was commissioned by the American Guild of Organists Columbus convention in 2007, where Wilbur Held was honored for his long career and  many contributions to the organ profession, especially in the realm of church music. Held  is  now  95,  living  in  Claremont, California, and still playing and composing. We thank Kim Leffingwell for her work in bringing this music to life today.

Organ Meditation on Faithfulness - R. G. te Velde

11:00 Chancel Choir Anthem: "Joshua!" - arr. D. Moore

8:30 Offertory:  "Lord Jesus Christ, Be Present Now" - Telemann
This short chorale setting is by Georg Philipp Telemann, whose birthday we celebrate today (1681-1767). Telemann has the distinction of having written more pieces of music (although many are very short) than any other composer in history. Although J.S. Bach's reputation towers above Telemann's today, Telemann was the better known in their time. In fact, Bach was awarded the job of music director in Leipzig only after Telemann had turned it down to accept a better-paying job in Hamburg.
