What We Believe
For more information on what Presbyterians believe, click the "Who We Are" link on the home page of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A).
What Do I Have to Believe to Join?
If you join the Presbyterian church, you will be asked to affirm two statements of faith:
- That Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior
- That you trust him
These are simple affirmations, but we believe that a thoughtful answer to them covers all the important issues in Christian belief.
Ordained lay leaders (elders and deacons) are asked to answer affirmatively these three questions about their faith:
Do you trust in Jesus Christ your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of all and head of the church, and through him believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
Do you accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be, by the Holy Spirit, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the church universal, and God's Word to you?
Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and lead by those confessions as you lead the people of God?
You do not have to affirm these questions to join the church. They are listed only to help you gain a better understanding of what most members of the church believe.
What If I Have More Questions?
If you have more questions or want to discuss issues of faith, please call the church office (405) 372-5800 or send electronic mail to our pastor, B. Gordon Edwards (BGE41340@swbell.net).
